PAGES is a proprietary file format used by iWork Pages. Rarely would you see this format in use outside of the Apple ecosystem. That’s because opening or editing a PAGES document with an application such as Word, Google Docs or Adobe Acrobat is not possible. On Mac, iWork Pages eliminates potential compatibility issues by providing the convenience of exporting files to PDF or DOCX format before sending them to users on other platforms. But what if someone sends a PAGES document your way without taking the time to convert it? Of course, if you have a Mac, you’ll be fine. But it’s a problem if you don’t. Do not you worry. Let’s take a look at how to still get a PAGES file converted to PDF or DOCX on non-Mac platforms, so that you have a chance to open or work on the document. Convert pages on desktop On desktops, be it Windows or Linux (or even a Mac if you don’t have the iWork suite installed), you have an easy and ultra-secure method to convert PAGES files with iCloud Pages. In case you didn’t know, most of Apple’s services are available online as a web app at iCloud.com, which also includes Pages (albeit with certain restrictions). Below are specific steps on how to use Zamzar, a reputed online converter that has been around for a while and works quite well on most Android browsers. Note: Zamzar imposes a limit of five conversions per day per device. You must upgrade to a paid plan to remove the restriction. Step 3: Specify the output file format using the Convert files to menu. In addition to PDF and DOCX formats, Zamzar also supports converting to DOC, EPUB and TXT formats.
Step 4: Tap Convert. Your files should start converting immediately. Sometimes the conversion process can take a few seconds, depending on the server load. Once Zamzar has converted the files, tap Download button next to a file to save it locally.
The downloaded files are saved in the Downloads folder on your device. Note: If you’re using Chrome, it should preview a file shortly after downloading. Simply tap the back icon on the navigation bar to return to the Zamzar download page. Other online file converters such as CloudConvert or Aconvert also offer the possibility to convert PAGES files to the desired formats. However, it is always a good idea to read the privacy policies on such sites to determine how those sites will handle your information before proceeding.
Convert pages on iOS
You don’t have to rely on third-party converters on iOS either. Instead, you can use the iOS version of the Pages app itself to convert your PAGES files to PDF or DOCX format. And if you’re wondering, iCloud.com doesn’t work well in Safari, nor other browsers for iPhone or iPad, so it’s not a viable option. Step 1: Download the Pages app from the App Store. If you already have one installed, move on to the next step. Download pages Step 2: Open the Pages app and you will be asked to choose a PAGES file that is stored locally online. If you received the PAGES file via email or another app, tap the attached file and it should automatically open in the Pages app.
Step 2: Open the More menu (three-dot icon).
Step 3: Tap the option labeled Export.

Step 5: The PAGES file is immediately converted to the selected format. Tap the option labeled Choose to continue How to Send.
Step 6: On the Share Sheet that shows up, select an app (Word, Adobe Acrobat, etc.) to open the file with. You can also use the Save to files option to save the file to integrated cloud storage services or to the On my iPhone / iPad folder through the Files app.
Just like using iCloud.com on a desktop, the Pages app provides a safe way to convert your files to PDF or DOCX. However, the app cannot export multiple files at once. Instead, consider using the CloudConvert app (downloadable from the App Store) or an online converter like Zamzar to convert more than one file at a time. Keep in mind that neither third-party apps nor online converters are the most secure, and you should avoid using them if the PAGES documents contain sensitive information.
