They’re decently comfortable and can be used with most consoles that have an AUX port with full audio and microphone compatibility. Boom mics do an excellent job of capturing your voice, even in harsh environments. However, the controls are very limited and there is no companion software available to tweak the sound. What I don’t like so much is the hard notched steel headband. They are well padded and comfortable to wear, but very difficult to get a precise fit. As I will discuss in more detail in the next section, this is a big step back from the “ski goggle” design of the Arctis 3, 5, 7, and Pro, which automatically fit your head every time you put them on. The left ear cup has all the special features of the headset, including a volume dial, microphone mute button, and a detachable microphone; detachable microphones are hard to find on a $50 headset, but this flexible microphone is both unobtrusive and I was impressed by how easy it was to remove. This allows the Arctis 1 to be used as an everyday headset, or the microphone can be removed when immersed in a single player adventure. The headset connects via a single 3.5mm audio jack, but the device comes with an audio/microphone splitter for gaming PCs. The cable is too long and will need to be shortened depending on the distance to the PC, but longer is better than too short. Other than that, it can be connected to almost any device, from cell phones to gaming consoles. Overall, this is a very comfortable headset. The headphones are not very deep, although the band does tighten quite tightly, so it feels very secure and creates a nice seal. However, the headphones are not very deep, and my ears usually came in contact with the fabric covering the speakers. If you have large ears, you may find them a bit uncomfortable during long periods of gameplay. I didn’t have a problem with them, but after hours of use, even the slightest thing can bother you.
