Guide: Gmelius Helps You to Remove Clutter From Gmail Design
Gmail is undoubtedly a top-notch email service. However, there is quite a bit of clutter on the interface when you compare it to desktop email clients. While Gmail offers customization options through Gmail Labs, Gmail leaves a lot to be desired for the minimalists among us who want nothing but emails when they open Gmail in their browser.
In my attempt to get more interface space and optimize the use of Gmail for my emails only, I came across Gmelius Gmelius is a wonderful multi-browser extension (currently supports Chrome, Firefox and Opera) that allows you to customize your Gmail interface and get rid of all the junk around it. You can easily remove ads, customize navigation icons and a lot more. Let’s see what it has in its bag.
As you can see in the image above, the add-on options let you choose what you want and what you want to remove. You just need to tick the corresponding check boxes. Note: Your settings are not saved for your Gmail profile. The settings would apply to the browser you have installed and all such profiles.
Get more interface space
The best thing here is that you can get rid of all ads (the header, footer, and right pane). Now, that would be the best answer to, “Why these ads? “, Turn right?
After the ads are complete, you can download it People widget in the sidebar (which I think people hardly ever use). This really makes your inbox spacious. By the way, if you think the chat window (showing chat statuses, availability, chat search, etc.) adds to the clutter, you can choose to delete them all.
Customize navigation icons
Navigation icons appear only when you select or open a message. Even then, it’s just the icons, meaning there’s a chance you will hit the wrong one sometimes. With this option, your icons are named and you can too adjust color them.
Customize the header
By header we mean the Google logo and search box. Previously, the Google logo was clickable and was a navigation tool to reach the inbox immediately. This isn’t there right now, but Gmelius can help you bring it back. Additionally, if you rarely use the search bar and don’t want a clickable logo, you may want to hide the header temporarily. You can create the header automatically expandable and switch between views using Search + Share button that is added.
Add a subtle row marker
Navigating through mails becomes a lot easier with subtle driving highlightTo add to the fun, you can choose colors according to your background theme.
Add attachment icons
Attachment icons are generally indicated with a clamp draw and do not give any idea of what may be inside. That’s why you may want to enable this feature and learn more about attached files just by looking at the email subject in your inbox. In addition, you can move them from right to left.
Conclusion
Apart from these, you can play around with scrolling options, message appearance (homogeneous appearance) and a lot more. Overall, Gmelius is an indispensable extension for all Gmail users in my opinion. I enjoyed the experience and I am sure you will too. Tell us about it!
