When it comes to spreadsheets and reports, Google Sheets is my tool of choice. Sheets is not only convenient to use, but also easily accessible. You just need a place with a decent internet connection, and you can go about your business without worry. Or you can enable the offline availability settings to access them during your days without internet. Yes, it is that convenient. Creating charts on Google Sheets can prove to be a tedious process, especially if you’re not well versed in the somewhat complex network of tools and settings. Whether it is plotting the colorful lines or bars or inverting the X axis and Y axis and copying the same data to another sheet, creating graphs and charts is not as difficult as it seems . How to Create a line chart
Step 1: Select the cells containing the data you want to plot. Now click on Insert> Chart. If this is your first time to plot a chart, choose Sheets up a standard chart type.

Since I want to plot the Total column against the Month column, the data range is from A1 to A5 and H1 to H5. You can enter it manually in the Data range box or delete all entries under Series except Total. The data range is changed automatically.
Step 3: At this point, the line graph is quite simple, with no style elements. To add your personal touch, double click on the line graph that opens up the Customize window. Now you can choose the line color, line thickness and style. For a visually appealing chart, the best option is to add a point size and shape.
All you need to do is hover over the data points and the results will be visible to you.
How to Add data points to charts
If you want the data points to be displayed, go to Chart Editor> Series, and select the Data labels check box.
Choose the position, and that’s it! Your simple line chart is easy to see!
How to Name a diagram
It is best to name a diagram when it is part of a presentation, just to make it easier for others to understand the idea you are presenting.
To name a chart, go to Chart and Axis Titles, select the horizontal axis title and enter the name. If you want the legends on the right side of the chart at the same time, click Legend and choose the position.
How to Create a column chart
Fortunately, creating a column chart is almost like line charts. Column charts are useful when you want to plot changes over time or when you want to compare two data sets. Step 1: Select the area of the table and click Insert> Chart, and select Column Chart from the Chart Type drop-down list.
If you have a table like the one in the screenshot above, chances are Google Sheets will use the first column as the X axis and the first column as the Y axis.
To reverse the order, check the ‘Swap Rows / Columns’ box.
Step 2: For column charts, the legends are usually well-coded with colors. But if you want to change them, select the chart and double click on the bar you want to change the color of.
Choose the color from the right panel and it will be applied to the rest. To add data labels, check the box for Data Labels under Series and select the position, and that’s about it. How to Create a stacked column chart
A stacked bar is a variation of the standard column chart. And similar to that, it can be horizontal or vertical. Coincidentally, Google Sheets offers both styles. An important element of a stacked column chart is the color of the bars. The color and length of the bars should help you easily visualize the difference or similarities between the different vertical lines.
To create a stacked column chart, choose Stacked Column Chart from the drop-down list of chart types. If the default layout is not to your preference, you can have it changed in the chart editor (Swap Rows / Columns). In most cases, a chart of this type also chooses up the first column. Don’t worry, you can remove it from Series. Tap the three-dot menu and select Delete. To edit the default legends, go to Customize> Legend. However, one of the most important elements of this type of chart is the data labels, as the multiple elements can make it difficult to measure the actual values.
To add labels, select the check boxes for both Data Labels and Total Data Labels. Easily adjust the font, position or color as you see fit.
How to Make a pie chart
A pie chart is arguably one of the easiest charts to make on Google Sheets. This simple chart can be used to show the distribution of data across different categories.
All you need to do is select the data area and choose Pie Chart from the drop-down list. Double-click on the chart to edit it. Select Pie Chart> Slice Label and choose Percentage to view the percentage variation. Select Value and Percentage from the drop-down list to display both the value and percentage.
