Guide: How to Create Recurring Tasks using Wunderlist

Scheduling your tasks works wonders for your productivity. However, keeping all the tasks of the day in mind may not be effective. That’s where tools like Wunderlist come into play. These tools allow you to create reminders and to-do lists at the same time. Your fellow users can also participate to work together on group tasks. What if you entered the same tasks in your lists every day? That would be quite a chore. Fortunately, Wunderlist allows you to create recurring tasks for your daily tasks, as well as sync the same across all your connected devices. In this post we will see today how to create recurring tasks in Wunderlist in Windows 10, iOS and Android.

How to Create repetitive tasks in Wunderlist for Windows

The good thing about Wunderlist is that you can add a new task to repeat every day (or week), or you can choose to adapt an older task to this change. Step 1: Select a list from the left pane and click Add a taskbar at the top. Add the new task and press Enter.

Step 2: Now tap on the newly created task and select the Set date and reminder option on the far right. Pick a date.

Tap the ‘Remind me at …’ option to set a specific time. Otherwise, it will take the default time of +1 hour from the creation date. Step 3: Then click the Never repeat option and select a value from the drop-down list. Currently, Wunderlist offers you four options: daily, weekly, monthly or yearly.

All you have to do is pick one of the options, and that’s it. Once the job has been created, you should be able to see it on it homepage with a small recurring icon next to the date.

When the reminder time comes up, just tick the task and you will see a new set for the next date. Likewise, for old tasks, click a task to open it. Then click on the card that says Never repeat and choose the frequency with which you want to repeat the task. If you don’t want to do a task often, set it to Never repeat.

Wunderlist Restrictions of repetitive tasks

While Wunderlist’s recurring tasks allow you to add notes, files, and comments, this is minor feature is not without limitations. First, the standard repeating pattern is one. For example, you cannot have a task repeated every two weeks or every three months. You should make do with what the Windows app offers by default. Second, even if you’ve added an attachment, you can’t have it repeated with the task. You should go to the parent task to view it.

How to Create repetitive tasks in Wunderlist for Android and iOS

The Wunderlist app for Android and the iOS has a neat interface where making a recurring task is a walk in the park. I like the Android app for its colorful interface compared to the pale look of the iPhone app. Step 1: Open the app, tap the Add a task box and enter the task name.

Step 2: Select Set date and reminders to add the date. Then tap the bell icon to enter the time. Now you will see a lot of time presets, something that made me like the phone app over the standard Windows app.

However, if these presets aren’t what you had in mind, tap custom to enter your own time. Step 3: Tap Never repeat and choose a frequency. Another benefit of using the mobile app is that it allows you to add a custom frequency to repeat your tasks, unlike (you guessed it!) the Windows app.

So if you want a task to repeat every 3 weeks or 2 months, you can do that with the mobile app. Once you have entered all the relevant details, click Save button

How to Create subtasks in Wunderlist

Wunderlist also offers the ability to create and manage subtasks or nested tasks. They are not like that feature-Rich as Google Tasks, but they’ll get your job done. All you need to do is open an old task (or create a new one) and double-click it to open the detailed view. Move the mouse focus to add a subtask, enter the text and press Enter. Do the same for all other subtasks.

To remove a subtask from the Windows app, tap the little cross icon on the right. While on your Android or iOS device, swipe left over it and tap the confirmation message when prompted.

But as we mentioned above, subtasks in Wunderlist are a bit limited. You cannot add notes to it, nor can you add photos to it. You can add the subtasks on it home page, unless you open the Detailed View pane.

Psychology of To-Dos and Memories

As David Allen likes to say in his book Getting Things Done, indexing all the chaos of your mind to real lists will not only make you efficient, but will also significantly reduce the mental burden. So, the next time you create a to-do list on Wunderlist, be the smart girl (or dude) and make it come back. The next up: Do you use Google Assistant to track your memories? If so, don’t miss them because of the low tone. To change the Assistant reminder sound, see the following message.
