Guide: How to Hide Tumblr Blog From Others

Tumblr is a great platform to blog about anything to do with images and videos. And the fact that you can create new blogs in just seconds makes things even better. However, that doesn’t necessarily mean you need the whole world to ogle for work. Maybe you just want people who really know about you to check in. Or you may like that your blog is kept completely private. But can you do that? Yes, that’s possible! Tumblr features a range of visibility options you can use to impose serious privacy controls on any blog of your choice. It’s actually quite easy to block search engines or hide a blog from other Tumblr users, so let’s see how. Also read: Turn off Best Stuff First recommendations via Tumblr Dashboard

Available visibility settings

Tumblr offers up up to three separate visibility settings that allow you to control the exposure level for each blog. They are: Hide yourblog.tumblr.com – Enable this option to hide the Tumblr blog completely. Only you can view it from your dashboard. However, the blog may still appear in search engines, but access is completely inaccessible to anyone. If you want complete privacy this is it. Hide yourblog.tumblr.com from the search results – This option discourages search engines from indexing the blog. If already indexed, search engines would eventually delete it from their caches. The blog would also not be displayed up even within Tumblr’s own search feature yourblog.tumblr.com is explicit – Use this option if you only want people who are signed in to Tumblr, who have otherwise disabled the safe mode restriction, to view your blog. Make sure to use this if your blog contains Not Safe for Work (NSFW) content. You can enable all three options at the same time, but keep in mind that marking a blog as explicit also allows the option to hide the blog from search engines. To get to these settings, you can use the web, Android, or iOS version of Tumblr, so read on to find out exactly how. Secondary blog with password protection

Before we wrap things up, let’s take a look at another privacy-related one feature available for secondary Tumblr blogs. This means that you protect your blog with a password, which means that you can immediately control who has access to your work. Institution up a password is pretty simple, but you can only do it through the web version of Tumblr. Start by going to the Tumblr Settings screen. Then select the blog you want to password protect and scroll down to the bottom of the screen.

Here you should see an option labeled Password. Tap the switch next to it and enter a password. After that, click anywhere on the screen and Tumblr should save that password. Note: This option won’t show up for your primary Tumblr blog, so don’t even bother. If you were wondering, there is also no way to change the main blog from primary to secondary. Now share the password with someone who wants to access your blog, and they should be able to view it. If you want to remove the password protection at a later time, simply disable the option from the same settings screen. Note: Any changes to the blog’s visibility settings will still apply. For example, if you choose to make your blog explicit, users will still need to turn off Safe Mode regardless of whether they use the password. Also read How to Customize Tumblr by installing XKit
