Guide: How to Manage Connected Devices to Instagram Account

With the increasing number of social media account takeovers and hacks, it is essential to take the security of your social media account more seriously. That also applies to Instagram. However, it is not enough to protect your accounts with a strong password, because online security is more than just passwords. One of the best ways to keep your Instagram account safe is to make sure that you are the only one with authorized access to the device (s) you are using it from. But what if you forgot to log out of someone you may have used? Or maybe you didn’t log out of your account on your previous device before selling it? You can never be sure that the buyer is not behind your back or trying to access your account. Fortunately, Instagram has a facility that allows users to check which device is connected to their accounts. The best part is that it also allows users to remotely delete unknown devices. This post below will show you how to check and remove devices connected to your Instagram account mobile and PC. Let’s start with mobile

On Mobile App

Check Connected devices

Step 1: Tap the account profile picture to open the profile menu. Step 2: Tap the hamburger menu icon in the top right corner.

Step 3: Select settings.

Step 4: Select Security from the Settings menu page.

Step 5: Now tap on the Login Activity option.

That will reveal a list of the locations you are logged into Instagram with, in addition to the devices you are logged into. You will also be presented with the maps with information showing the last three locations from which the Instagram account was accessed. Fast Tip Swipe left or right to access other location maps.

Delete unknown devices

Method 1

If you discover an unwanted / unknown device that you want to disconnect from your account, follow the steps below to log them out remotely. Step 1: On the Login Activity page, tap the three-dot menu icon next to the device you want to remove / disconnect from your account.

Step 2: Select Sign Out on the credential card that appears up

Step 3: A confirmation message will be displayed. Tap OK.

Method 2

On the ‘Was this you?’ At the top of the login activities page, tap the ‘This wasn’t me’ option on an unknown device.

That will prompt you to create a new account password. When you do that, your account will be removed remotely from all other connected devices except the one from which you made the changes.

On PC

If you open Instagram from your computer, here is how to check and delete devices connected to your account.

Check Connected devices

Step 1: Launch Instagram on your PC and open your profile page.

Step 2: Tap the gear icon to open the Settings menu.

Step 3: Select Login Activity.

Just as it is mobile, a list of devices that have previously accessed your Instagram account will be displayed. Instagram also displays the location from which you accessed your account on the connected devices. Study the list carefully and check for strange, old, or unknown devices. If you find one, follow the steps below to remove it.

Remove connected devices

Step 1: Tap the V-shaped icon to expand the details about the connected device.

Step 2: Tap the Sign Out option below the map image to disconnect the device from your account.

Step 3: A bang-up card indicating that the device is logged out of your account appears on the screen. Click OK.

Now when you go back to the list of devices you are signed in to, the device you just removed shouldn’t be there anymore. Alternatively, you can also tap the ‘This wasn’t me’ option on one of the three cards with the latest connected devices (and their location) at the top of the Login Activity page.

Then proceed to change your password to disconnect your account from all other connected devices.

If you only access your account from one device, this is a much better and more secure option.

Secure your Instagram account
