Google will keep your emails for the next 30 days before permanently deleting them. How to permanently delete emails in the Gmail app

First, you can open a list of your emails and tap an image listed on the left side of the email. If you do, you will select this email as a checkmark will appear on it. From there, you can either delete it by clicking the trash icon at the top or select more emails by repeating the process and then delete them all. Alternatively, you can open an email and tap the trash icon at the top. This will only delete the email you opened, of course. Now, to permanently delete an email, you will need to open the hamburger menu. Tap the three horizontal lines in the upper left corner. From there, you will need to select the “Trash” option from the menu that pops up. This will open a list of your deleted emails. There you will see the option “Empty trash now”, which will erase all your emails. Alternatively, you can select just a few of them and delete them as you did initially, but this will delete them from the trash and remove them forever.
How to permanently delete emails from desktop
The procedure for the desktop client is quite similar actually. After opening an email list, you can open the email to delete it or tap the checkbox next to it. If you want to delete multiple emails, you will need to tap multiple checkboxes. Once you’ve decided which way to go, you’ll need to tap the trash icon at the top, just as you would in the app. Once that’s done, you’ll need to access the menu on the left. For most of you, it’s open all the time, but if it’s not, you can access it through the burger menu in the top left corner, just like you would in an Android app. After doing this, you will need to find the “Trash”. If you don’t see this menu, click on “More” at the bottom. This one button will reveal the “Trash” option for most of you if you haven’t moved it at the top of the menu. In any case, tap this option. A trash menu will open and from there you can tap the “Empty trash now” option in the upper right corner. Alternatively, if you have a lot of emails and you only want to delete some of them permanently, you can do this the same way you originally deleted them, using the checkboxes.
