1. Check Outlook
Yes that’s right. I suspect you don’t use Outlook on the web much because if you were, you probably wouldn’t be here. See, every time you delete a note, a copy of it is saved in the Outlook Trash folder.

2. Fix it
Microsoft has made it difficult to find this feature, but it exists and is easy to use. You can revert Sticky Notes to an earlier version, which will restore all deleted notes the next time you start Sticky Notes. Search for Sticky Notes, right-click on them and select Properties. You can also use the Alt + Enter keyboard shortcut if you have a desktop shortcut for the app to directly launch the Properties dialog box. The Previous Versions tab lists older versions of Sticky Notes with dates. If there is an earlier version, select it and click Restore, Apply and OK.

3. The hidden file
Your computer does not show that all files and folders are visible. Some files are hidden to prevent accidental deletion – usually the system files. There is one folder where you can find the contents of your deleted Sticky Notes note. However, you need to make it visible first. Search for Show hidden files in Windows Search and open it.
On the View tab, select Show hidden files, folders, and drives and click Apply and OK. You will now see hidden files that were not visible before, and they will be a bit faded compared to other folders / files. Navigate to the folder below: C: UsersAppDataRoamingMicrosoftSticky Notes That’s where you will see the StickyNotes.snt file. Right-click on this file and open it with Notepad as it is a file format not recognized otherwise by Windows.
Once the file is opened you will notice that there is a lot of nonsensical text that makes no sense and that’s okay. Don’t change anything.
Use the search feature (Ctrl + F) to find the contents of your deleted notes. This file contains text from notes you accidentally deleted. So if your note contains the word ‘call’ then look for the same.
4. Enable Delete Confirmation
Sticky notes in previous versions before Windows 10 arrived would instantly delete the notes when you clicked the small ‘x’ buttonFortunately, Microsoft has solved that. In Windows 10 with the latest version of Sticky Notes, clicking the ‘x’ will only close the note. Sticky Note will only delete a note if you click the trash can icon.
But if you go to Settings and enable the Confirm before deleting option, you will get a pop-up ask for your permission before deleting the note. That will act as a safety net in case you end up up click on delete button accidentally.
5. Back upup of sticky notes
If you use sticky notes to store important information, it is necessary to have a backupup take these notes just in case. Press Windows key + R on your keyboard to launch the Run prompt and type the following command before pressing enter. % LocalAppData% packagesMicrosoft.MicrosoftStickyNotes_8wekyb3d8bbweLocalState You will notice a file called plum.sqlite that you will need to copy and paste into a secure folder.
I would recommend using a flash drive or your favorite cloud storage service. To restore, paste the backup file back into the folder where you found it and replace the old file. I recommend that you backup from the old file you are replacing to avoid losing those notes.
6. Use Google Keep
