You can install Windows 11 as a virtual machine using the free VMware Workstation Player or Oracle VM VirtualBox. If you want to check out the Windows 11 Insiders Preview edition, you have a few options on how and where to install it. You can put it on a dedicated or spare PC, configure it up as part of a dual-boot system to coexist with another version of Windows or add it as a virtual machine. In some ways, a virtual machine is the most effective option because it lets you control how much disk space, memory, and other resources are allocated to run the operating system. VMware Workstation Player is free for non-commercial, personal and home users, students and non-profit organizations. Commercial organizations are required to purchase a license for $149. Get the program from its download page by clicking the Download Now link. Double-click the downloaded file and follow the steps to install it. After installation, open the program and click on the Create a New Virtual Machine link button. VMware Workstation Player In the New Virtual Machine Wizard, click the Installer Disk Image File (iso) option, then browse to the downloaded Windows 11 ISO file and select it. Click Next. You must then select a guest operating system. Choose Microsoft Windows and set the version to Windows 10 x64. Click Next. You can then name the virtual machine. We recommend giving it a name that’s easy to identify, such as “Windows 11 Preview”. Choose the location where you want to store the virtual machine and all its associated files and click Next. In the next window, accept the recommended disk size for your Windows 11 environment. If you plan to keep the VM on your current computer instead of moving it to another location, check the Store virtual disk as a single file option and click Advance.
