Guide: How to Transfer Photos From One Google Account to Another

Sometimes you accidentally add photos to the wrong Google account, or just want to migrate them to another Google Photos account. In such cases, you need to move images from one Google Photos account to another. So here we will tell you how to transfer photos between two Google Photos accounts. A typical way to do that is to download all the images and videos from your first Google Photos account and then upload them to your second Google Photos account. If you don’t want to select the images, you can take the help of Google Takeout. To do that, go to the Google Takeout website and download your entire Google Photos library from it. It will be available as a ZIP file. Extract it and upload the photos and videos in your second account normally. Both methods require you to download and upload photos. It’s a long process. To avoid that, you can follow the other two methods mentioned in this post for migrating Google Photos between accounts. Note: The screenshots are from an Android phone, and the steps remain the same for iPhone as well. The steps for the web are available at the end.

1. Add a partner account

Google Photos offers many ways to share images. It has a really cool look feature with which you can share all your supported up photos with your partner. You can customize sharing and sharing from a selected date or just from a specific person. We will enlist the help of this feature to migrate Google Photos between two accounts. Here are the steps in detail.

Step 1. Send the invitation from the first time Phone

The process begins with sending an invitation to join as a partner account. To do this, follow these steps: Step 1: Open the Google Photos app. Switch to the account you want to transfer files from by tapping the profile picture icon at the top. Tip You can even delete an account from Google Photos. Step 2: Tap the three-bar icon at the top and select Settings.

Step 3: Tap Shared Libraries. Then tap Get started.

Step 4: Enter the name or email address of your second account that you want to transfer your Google Photos to.

Step 5: As mentioned before, you can select all photos, images from selected people or from a specific date. In this step, you must select the appropriate option for this. Select All Photos, as you must move all photos. Confirm your choice on the next screen and tap Send invitation.

Note: Every new photo (if the backup option is enabled) is automatically shared unless you stop sharing.

Step 2. Accept the invitation

You will receive a notification on your second account. Tap the notification. The interface will ask you to accept the invitation. Tap Accept.

If you are signed in to both accounts phone, tap the profile picture icon at the top and switch accounts. If you miss the notification, follow the same steps. Then with the second account, go to the Share tab at the bottom. You will see the person’s library with the text of the person who invited you. Tap on it. Tap Accept to approve it.

Step 3. Save photos from the first account to the second

Once you accept the invitation, it doesn’t mean the photos will be transferred to the second account. In fact, the photos from the first account are not even displayed up at this point in the Google Photos library. You can only access them from the Share tab in the bottom right corner.

So basically you have to save photos. You don’t have to do that manually. Google Photos does it for you. To do this, follow these steps: Step 1: Tap the Share tab at the bottom. Select the library of the first account.

Step 2: Tap the three-dot icon at the top and select Settings.

Step 3: Tap Save to your library and choose All photos.

You will see the images now appear under the Photos tab. Wait for the images to appear. The photos are saved in the same quality (original or high quality) as available in the first account. Then you need to remove the partner account from the first account as shown in the next section. Note: At this point, the shared photos will not be taken up space on the second account. Only if the first account deletes the partner account or removes the photo from their side, space will be taken up on the second account. Also, if the first account deletes the original photos, it won’t be deleted from the partner account if the Save to your library option was enabled.

Step 4. Delete partner account

To do this, follow these steps: Step 1: Open the Google Photos app and switch to the first account. Step 2: Tap the Share tab at the bottom. Select Photos shared with.

Step 3: Tap the three dots icon at the top and select Shared library settings.

Step 4: Tap Delete partner. Tip You can even go to Google Photo Settings> Shared Library. Select Delete partner. A confirmation dollup will appear. Tap Delete.

The photos have been successfully transferred to another Google account. They are now stored separately in the first and second accounts, where they act as completely different copies. You can do whatever you want with the photos on the first account. Note: The archived photos are not transferred with this method. Make sure to unarchive them first. Albums also cannot be transferred – only individual photos and videos.

2. Create a shared album

Although the above method gives you certain choices to select the photos you want to move, you cannot select them manually. For that, you can create a shared album and add the photos in it that you want to move to another account. Here are the steps: Step 1: Open the Google Photos app and switch to the first account. Step 2: Tap the Albums tab at the bottom. Then tap New Album (if available).

If it is not available, tap the Photos tab and open a photo. Wipe up and select Add to album. You need to create a new album and add images to it.

Step 3: Type a name for the album in the Add Title box. When a photo is selected, tap the check mark at the top or tap Select photos.

Once the album has been created, you will find it in the Albums tab. Open the album and tap the Add icon to add more images. Select the photos you want to add.

Step 4: Open the album and click the share icon at the top.

Step 5: Select the person from the available contacts and tap Send.

Step 6: You will be notified that the album is being shared on your second account. Open Google Photos with the second account and go to the Share tab at the bottom. Tap the album.

Step 7: Select the photos you want to migrate to the current account. Then tap the Add to library icon at the top.

By doing this, all selected photos will be available on your Google Photos. That is to say, such photos have their independent copy on the second Google Photos account. If you delete the photos from the first account or stop sharing the album, the photos will remain on the second account. Step 8: Wait for all photos to transfer. Once that’s done, you can stop sharing the album from the first account. To do this, open the album that is present under the Share tab of the first account.

Tap the three dots icon at the top and go to Options.

Turn off the switch for Share
