Guide: Snapseed vs Toolwiz: Comparison and Review

The rise of mobile photography has resulted in the death of compact cameras and point-and-shootcamera’s. There are many reasons behind this phenomenon and one of them is photo editing tools. Smartphones not only allow us to take great pictures, but also edit them right away with photo editors like Snapseed and Toolwiz. These two are the best photo editors to use the mobile photography world. GT readers are familiar with Snapseed, a powerhorse developed by Google that we’ve written about a number of times in the past. Download Snapseed Toolwiz Photos is a relatively new tool that is quickly making a name for itself. Download Toolwiz Photos Let’s take a look at how these two compete and which one to choose.

1. Lay of the land

Snapseed has a minimalist design with no ads or unnecessary clutter. It is owned by Google, which is known for its minimalist design and white background. On the other hand, Toolwiz has a colorful layout with ads that might annoy you a bit.

All the tools that Snapseed has, 29 to be precise, can be found under the Tools section at the bottom of the screen. Everything is quickly and easily accessible. On the other hand, Toolwiz has a funky layout where you can swipe horizontally. Almost half of the screen is occupied by a single ad that is removable (more on this in the pricing section). You can change the picture size and quality in the settings of both apps. Other than that, there’s little to mess around with here.

2. Tools of the box

This is where things get interesting. Toolwiz allows you to create a slideshow with your favorite photos or an album to save those priceless moments. There is also a special option to capture moments from photos and videos. In case you’re wondering, I am handing out food to people in the rain-stricken areas.

Pro Editing is where the action takes place. Here you will find tools for filters, toning and effects. You can remove red eyes, tune your face, use the healing tool to beautify it, make-up add for a festive look or just teeth whitening.

Snapseed takes a more professional approach by letting you control the hue of the photo or set the exposure to your desired level. What I liked was the ability to apply multiple edits to the same photo and save them as a stack. Just like the burst mode that clicks and bundles multiple photos at once.

Both apps can handle crop, scale, resize and blur options. Toolwiz also allowed me to draw over my images with brush and ready-to-use shapes. I was also able to change the perspective of the image, making it look like it had been cropped at a different angle.

Snapseed, on the other hand, will amaze you with its support for RAW images. You can now edit your DSLR photos directly in it. Note that the Android version only supports DNG format, and the iOS version supports more than 144 camera models. Not sure why there is little love for Android given that Google makes Snapseed and Android. The Develop (RAW) option will reveal itself when you open DNG or other supported formats.

Both Snapseed and Toolwiz include a range of filters and frames to work with your images. But Toolwiz was more fun to use in this scenario because I could use stickers and clipart.

3. Ease and style of editing

Snapseed is a gesture-based photo editing tool that requires you to actively use your fingers to move around the image while applying effects. I found myself always swiping the screen to apply the desired effects. This felt good, as it gave me more control over how the changes apply to the photo. Toolwiz relies more on the buttons which you can tap and scroll to control output. While this isn’t bad and works equally well, you have little control over the precise areas and aspects of the photo.

So who cares? Enough. See, both Snapseed and Toolwiz are trying to capture a different type of users. Snapseed is aimed at serious photographers who want more control and advanced editing tools such as RAW support, HDR scape and double exposure. Toolwiz is more suited to amateur photographers and photographers looking for quick, one-tap solutions. Especially those people who want to post their edited snaps to Instagram and Twitter as soon as possible.

4. Pricing

Snapseed is free and does not display ads. This impresses me every time. A powerful photo editing tool that comes with no strings attached. You are not even asked to sign in with your Google account. Just fire up the app and start editing images. Toolwiz is a nice little app that offers a lot of tools, but is plagued by the annoying ads. While there are no popups and you don’t see any ads while editing, I didn’t like it. Interestingly, I use Blokada to block in-app ads, but it didn’t work here.

The good thing is none of the features are hidden behind the paywall. However, you can donate $ 2, totally worth it, to remove ads and become a VIP member. Your name will be added to a long list of supporters who love the app, and the list is very long. Trust me, I really tried to scroll through it!

And the winner is…

As mentioned before, both apps are powerful and do what they are supposed to do very well. I prefer Snapseed because its interface is easier to use and offers pro-level editing options. Plus, I’m not great at sharing photos via social media and rarely post selfies. Choose Toolwiz if you want to spend less time in the app and more time sharing the edited photos. If so, you will have a lot of fun editing your photos with Toolwiz. The next up: Do you like to take tilt-shift photos? Looking for the best photography apps to do this?
