Guide: Upload Files in Google Forms: Guide

Whether it’s a small survey or a school assignment, Google Forms is the go-to when you need to collect information from multiple people. The best thing about Forms is its simplicity and easy-to-understand interface (isn’t that true of all Google services?). Anyone with an email ID can create a form in minutes. Until a few years ago, uploading files to Google Forms required a lot of workarounds with complicated scripts and other methods. Fortunately, thanks to the latest Forms update, we now have the much-needed option to upload files. Therefore, we will see how to upload files to Google Forms and other tricks and related questions in this article. Let’s start. Step 1: Create a form as usual and enter necessary information such as name and description.

The good thing about the new file upload option is that you can enable it from the drop-down menu just like any other options like checkboxes, drop-down menus, etc. Step 2: All you need to do is select the option from the drop-down menu. Then turn on the switch ‘Allow only specific file types’.

In terms of file formats and sizes, Google gives you a ton of options to play with. Step 3: Then select the file size. If you don’t want to clutter your Google Drive with large files, you can also specify the cumulative file size. Click the Settings icon at the top, scroll down and select a size under the ‘Maximum size of all uploaded files’ option.

Add the other elements to your form and that’s it. Form submitters can see the Add file option. Not sure what the form looks like? Click the eye-shaped preview icon in the top right corner.

The uploaded files are stored on your Google Drive. Fortunately, a unique shareable link is created for all uploaded documents. These links prove to be very helpful in following them. After all, you wouldn’t want to keep renaming the files according to the submitter’s name, would you? To create the spreadsheet, go to the Comments tab and tap the plus-shaped sheets icon.

Since users can also upload files from their Google Drive account, ownership of the file is transferred to the owner of the file.

File Upload Limitations

While Forms allows you to upload multiple files in one form, it has its limitations. First, you cannot upload a folder. You should upload the files one by one. And of course the names of the files must be different from each other. Note: Did you know you can add page breaks to your forms? Just click on the Add Section icon from the floating toolbar.

Why am I seeing the message ‘Missing file upload folders’?

By default, forms create a folder in Google Drive to store all uploaded files. So if this particular folder is accidentally deleted and someone tries to upload a file, you will get Missing File Upload Folders message. To restore the form, you just need to open the form and tap Restore.

Also, make sure to link a spreadsheet when creating a form. This sheet contains all responses from the respondents, along with a link to the uploaded files. In addition, along with the timestamp, it is updated in real time, making it easier to see responses and track responses.

Although it was a serious problem until last year, it has now been addressed. Previously, only G Suite users from the same domain could upload files or see an active upload file button However, if you still don’t see it, I recommend that you refresh the page or log in again.

Can people upload files without signing up?

Unfortunately, if your form has a file upload option, users will have to sign in with their Google account, meaning non-Google users will not be able to respond.

This is because Forms uses Google Drive to store files. Fortunately, the same rule doesn’t apply to other types of options. And hey, don’t forget to jazz it up before getting the form ready to send up with themes, colors and images. Tap the palette icon and watch the magic unfold.

File away

Whether it’s creating a simple quiz or collecting answers for marketing surveys, Google Forms offers an endless array of featuresAnd with the new option to upload files, the reach increases. What are your favorite Google forms? featuresLet us know in the comments below.
